Extra bucks - rip off
CVS really screwed me over, I had earned some of their “extra bucks” by buying the items they specified and when I went to use them they would not allow me to. I tried to buy mp3 earbuds and the associate told me that I could not use the bucks on them. He would not give me any explanation either. I was furious. I stormed out without the earbuds and I have not been back.
You've earned the points-make them allow them! If he won't explain, as for a supervisor to come tell you why you can't use them. Failing that, use them online!
CVS has some rules about using their “extra care buck rewards”, the problem is the rule is never the same. What I mean by this is one cashier will tell you one thing and treat it as the “rule” and another one will tell you something different. How fair is this to us – the customers?
You earn these crazy rewards by buying whatever they tell you to buy. For instance, a razor will be normally priced at $9.99 (the Wal-Mart price is usually $6.99), if you buy it at CVS you get the Extra Care buck for $3.00 after purchasing the product. The extra care buck prints off on your receipt. You are supposed to be able to use that buck on your next purchase.
Some cashiers will let you use it on your next purchase, right then. I most of the time will separate my things into many orders. It’s a pain for me, but it’s the only way I can use the crazy extra care bucks. I will use the first buck on the second order, and the second buck on the third order, etc. Most times they let me do this. Of course I make sure I go when it’s not busy – as I don’t want to hold other shoppers up with all my orders.
Some cashiers will not allow you to do this. I have to literally leave the store and then come back in and purchase other items. So I walk out the out door and in the in door and then I get back in line. Pretty silly if you ask me.
Some cashiers will let you use multiple bucks in 1 order as long as you have multiple items you are purchasing. Some stick to the rule of only 1 buck per order. It really does not make sense to me.
I have gotten many items free at CVS and that is why I put up with the crap they give you when you are trying to use these extra care bucks! I deal with many SNOTTY cashiers who think I’m trying to screw the system, when in fact they are scamming me. I have sent in numerous e-mails to CVS online. I have gotten back numerous e-mails and most of the time the rules are different. How can that be? You would think a company as big as CVS would be able to train their employees all 1 way and stick to 1 set of rules.
I am pretty sure that the rules of the Extra care bucks state that you can only use 1 per item. I have been to CVS when they would only allow me to use 1 per sale no matter how many things I had in that 1 sale.
The way to get around this is to ring up your items individually. Attach 1 extra care buck to 1 item and ring it out, then ring out another and use another extra care buck, and keep it going until you are done.
I think the cashier was right on though if you were trying to use more than 1 extra care buck on 1 set of ear buds. It might suck! But it’s the rules (or so they tell me). I keep forgetting to look it up on the website. I think the program is a scam because of that fact alone. If you bought items to earn those bucks then you should be able to use them however you want to.
Has anyone looked up the Extra care buck rules on the CVS website?
I feel your pain when you talk about the store not having stock items on the products that are on sale. That drives me crazy too! Rainchecks do not even help because you can’t get the buck after the sale date even with a raincheck. I have sent in many complaint e-mails and letters because of this issue.
I have found out that our local CVS gets their truck on Wednesdays. I have gone in on many Wednesday evenings and they have not even unloaded the crates yet. I have asked them several times to check to see if any more of the sale items came in on the truck. They are usually too busy they tell me (Most times I am the only one in the store). You can request the manager and have them look in the system to see if they show any quantity of the items you are looking for. Many Wednesday night’s the manager and I go and find the crate and I get the items I am looking for.
My advice to you is to ALWAYS be nice, when you are nice, they will help you out more. If you are nasty to them they won’t even budge. Get to know the store employees and the managers. If you are on a friendly basis with them they will help you more. A lot of times now they ask me when I walk in what I’m looking for and they help me find it. I don’t only shop the Extra buck sales though, I also use the pharmacy ad buy other items too.
Hey I did not know that you could call CVS headquarters and that they might reinstate expired "extra bucks". I have had many expire (I forget about them and then find them in the bottom of my purse). Thanks for that tip, I will be doing so from now on. I also go to my CVS on the day they get their delivery (Thursday here). I know a lot of people that run right in on Sunday only to be let down because they don't have the sale items in stock! They just need to listen to me, I tell them to wait for the delivery!
